No really just leave it somewhere and forget it! Initially I thought I must have screwed this up somehow and as another reviewer pointed out I did have a mason jar with flat crusty grape soda. After our disappointment we totally forgot about it up in our cupboard. My son got this for Christmas we started growing on the 27th. On the 9th we checked it and flat grape soda. Today 1/20 I dumped it out in the sink and voila! Crystals!!!!

Its okay for the price I got this for my 6 year old son. He is enjoying it so far but the crystals seem to stop growing after a day or two it is rather small
